As soon as one Scalp Micro Pigmentation session is completed, you will no doubt want to get back to your normal routine. However, you will need time for your scalp to heal and to avoid interfering with your new pigments deposits for the first few days and weeks. It is best not to touch, pick at or disturb your scalp during the early stages of the healing process. Here’s some tips on what to do after each treatment process

Day 1 to Day 4
In the first three to four days you have to take it easy after each SMP treatment

  • After each treatment you should wait three or four days before washing or touching your scalp to let it heal
  • Try to prevent any excess sweating during this time. It is suggested that you avoid any physical effort such as exercising at the gym or at home, also sitting in the sun, steam room, sauna or any other activities that may cause you to sweat.
  • Do not wash your head or get any water on it. For the first three to four days, resist any temptation to shower your head, wash your scalp or go swimming. We suggest not to use any shampoos or other soaps to clean the area within this time period.

Day 5 to Day 7

  • After four days, you may use only water to rinse your scalp. No shampoos or shower gels are to be used though
  • You may be able to use a non-perfumed moisturiser on your head after any treatment to avoid it getting dry and to keep it in good condition
  • At this point you can lightly shave your head if hair grows within the treated area. We will recommend some good hair clippers or rotary shavers for your new look. Wet shaving with a razor is also ok but for the first couple of weeks you should be shave lightly and shave with the grain not against it.
  • You can perform physical activities which make you sweat lightly such as lifting light weights at the gym, light cardio sessions or brisk walking but we advise keeping this to a minimum and only light intensity. However, do not use the sauna or go for a swim just yet.
  • Day seven onwards after treatment, you can resume back to showering and clean the treated area. It is best to wash your scalp with a gentle ph neutral soap.

Day 30

  • For the first 30 days it is critical to avoid any damage to the scalp while the pigmentation sets. Therefore, it is best to avoid heavy sweating, exfoliating, exposure to strong UV rays and fake tanning.
  • Once a month has gone past after the treatment, you can resume back to your normal lifestyle and activities including showering, gym and swimming.
  • Enjoy your new look and keep up with the long term aftercare guidelines.

Long term care

Now that the procedure is over, here’s some aftercare tips to take into measure to prolong the life of your treatment. Even though touch ups may be required due to fading over the years, with proper care and attention to the scalp, these will be required less frequently.

  • After the Scalp micro pigmentation treatment, continue to protect your scalp from the sun by using a high protection factor such as SPF 50 cream or cover it with a loose-fitting hat. Also, it is advised to avoid tanning beds too. Less exposure to the sun will help the treatment from fading the pigment. This will sure give better results for a longer period of time
  • Avoid any products that contain alcohol, most cosmetic products will contain some alcohol but if it has high concentration it is best to keep away.
  • It is advised to exfoliate your scalp around once a week as it removes dead skin cells and keeps your head looking smooth and great.
  • Moisturise your scalp at least once every day, this can benefit your overall appearance by keeping it in good condition.
  • It is recommended to shave the scalp every two to three days to maintain an even ‘freshly shaved’ look.
  • Call or visit your doctor if you feel any itching or swelling and immediately stop using the product.
  • Even though the Scalp Micro pigmentation procedure is permanent, the pigmentation may fade to a lighter shade over time slowly depending on various factors such as lifestyle and sun exposure. This is why it is suggested to come back after three to five years for a quick touch-up treatment to bring it back to life, this will vary on the individual.
